One thing you have to note is that an electric motor cannot run without two phases. Or even if it is used, it is okay without using two phases. But when we have to drive a motor from a single-phase, then by using a capacitor, two phases are made artificially from one phase. Therefore, a capacitor is a device that produces two phases from a phase electric current. Where it is not possible or difficult to use a three-phase line, single-phase motors are used and two phases from a single phase.
